Usability

Usability is a measure of people's experience with a user interface. Five essential criteria that make something usable: Learnability is how fast user can accomplish the basic tasks on an interface they have never used before. Efficiency is how fast a user can perform tasks after learning how to use the interface. Memorability - if a user has used the interface before, he or she can still remember enough to use it effectively after being away from it for a while. Memorable feedback helps users, and familiar visual cues make an interface both more learnable and memorable. Error Management reduces the number of errors users might make, decreases the severity of each error, and makes it easy for users to recover from errors. Satisfaction is about enjoyment. How pleasant is the user's experience; how much do users like the interface, and how satisfied are they with it?

User Centered Design

User Centered Design is the product of human-computer interaction and those who study the processes and  dynamics of computer-mediated communication. User Centered Design is an important aspect of design because it is about creating a product or interface that meets the needs of the user and is focused on the user. There are four types of User Interfaces: Graphical User Interfaces, Touch Interfaces, Voice Interfaces, and Augmented Reality. Graphical user interfaces include windows, icons, menus, buttons, and scrolling bars. Motion, video, audio, and virtual reality features have also gradually become part of graphical user interfaces. Touch interfaces use touch screens as combined input and output devices and allow users to directly interact with what is displayed on screen. Voice interfaces allow the user to use voice/speech to interact with digital devices. Augmented reality is about superimposing the computer-generated text, graphics, audio, GPS data, and other sensory...

Visual Hierarchy

The term visual hierarchy refers to the perceived ordering of content within a page by the reader. Alignment, color, emphasis, and proportion can be used to add visual hierarchy to a page. Without visual hierarchy, a page that consists only of text would be flat instead of drawing attention to a specific headline or topic. http://www.wsoctv.com/

Rule of Thirds & Golden Ratio

Image
The rule of thirds is a compositional tool used to produce visually appealing images using asymmetrical balance. The area of an image is metaphorically divided into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, which produces a three-by-three grid. Four points are created by the intersection of the lines and they serve as a guide to the designer or photographer for favorably placing subjects. The Golden Ratio ( symbol is the Greek letter "phi" φ) is a special number approximately equal to 1.618. The  Golden Ratio  creates a sense of harmony and balance. The Rule of Thirds is divided into thirds using only horizontal and vertical lines. the Golden Ratio, on the other hand, is made up of horizontal and vertical lines as well as a spiral connecting the lines.
