Rule of Thirds & Golden Ratio

The rule of thirds is a compositional tool used to produce visually appealing images using asymmetrical balance. The area of an image is metaphorically divided into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, which produces a three-by-three grid. Four points are created by the intersection of the lines and they serve as a guide to the designer or photographer for favorably placing subjects.

The Golden Ratio (symbol is the Greek letter "phi" φ) is a special number approximately equal to 1.618. The Golden Ratio creates a sense of harmony and balance.

The Rule of Thirds is divided into thirds using only horizontal and vertical lines. the Golden Ratio, on the other hand, is made up of horizontal and vertical lines as well as a spiral connecting the lines.
